Tokyo (September 1, 2010) – Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tetsuya Kawano as Vice Chairman and Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking Japan.

Mr. Kawano joins from Lazard, where he held the position of Chairman of Japanese Investment Banking. At Barclays Capital, Mr. Kawano will be responsible for the management of the firm's investment banking activities in Japan.

Mr. Kawano has held a number of leadership roles during his nearly 25 year career. Prior to Lazard, he was with JP Morgan from 2002 to 2007, where his responsibilities included Vice Chairman of JP Morgan Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, and Country Head (President and CEO) and Head of Investment Banking Group at JP Morgan Securities Japan. Before that he was with Goldman Sachs Japan from 1994 until 2002, where he was Head of the Telecom, Media and Technology Group. He began his investment banking career with Merrill Lynch in New York in 1986.
